The flat plate hot press machine is a device that uses parallel heating plates to press and shape materials under high temperature and high pressure conditions
The flat plate hot press machine is a device that uses parallel heating plates to press and shape materials under high temperature and high pressure conditions. The operation process involves evenly transferring heat to the material through the heating plates, while applying pressure to induce physical or chemical changes in the material under heat and compression, ultimately forming a dense and stable finished product. The flat plate hot press machine is widely used in industrial manufacturing and materials science, especially in the molding and lamination of composite materials, wood processing, and the manufacturing of electronic components.

Applications:
Composite Materials Production: Carbon fiber and fiberglass composites, ceramic-based composites.
Metalworking Industry: Powder metallurgy, sheet metal forming.
Electronics and Semiconductor Industry: Electronic component encapsulation, LED packaging.
Aerospace: Aerospace composites, aviation parts.
Solar and Photovoltaic Industry: Photovoltaic cells and packaging materials.
Application Case:《Using Flat Plate Hot Press Machine for Lithium Battery Thermal Pressing Formation》
Process Steps:
1. Prepare Materials:
Positive electrode materials: LiCoO₂, NCM, LFP, etc.
Negative electrode materials: Graphite, silicon-based materials, etc.
Electrolyte: Typically organic solvents containing LiPF₆.
Separator: Polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), etc.
Current collectors: Aluminum foil (positive electrode) and copper foil (negative electrode).
2. Assemble Battery Cells:
Coating and drying: Coat active materials onto current collectors and dry to remove solvents.
Stacking or winding: Arrange positive, negative electrodes, and separator in sequence, forming the basic structure of the battery.
Battery packaging: Place assembled cells into aluminum cases or soft packs for subsequent thermal pressing and formation.
3. Thermal Pressing Formation Process:
In the flat plate hot press machine, the thermal pressing formation is achieved by controlling temperature, pressure, and time to ensure the layers of materials in the battery are well bonded and activate the chemical reactions inside the battery.
Load battery cell: Place the assembled battery cell into the hot press mold, ensuring proper alignment of the components.
Set temperature and pressure: Typical temperature ranges from 50°C to 120°C, and pressure adjusts according to battery size, typically between 10-20 MPa.
Heating: Heat the battery cell to the set temperature, activating the electrolyte, electrodes, and separator molecular structures to promote material bonding.
Apply pressure: During heating, pressure is applied to ensure the tight bonding of layers and prevent bubbles or gaps.
Hold time: Thermal pressing time is usually between 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the battery size and material.
4. Cooling and Mold Removal:
Cooling: Gradually lower the temperature to prevent material shrinkage or damage. Air cooling or water cooling is typically used.
Remove mold: After cooling, the battery cell is removed from the press and undergoes quality checks.
5. Formation and Capacity Testing:
Formation: The battery cell is placed in a formation device for initial charging and discharging, activating internal chemical reactions and achieving preliminary electrochemical performance.
Capacity Testing: After formation, the battery undergoes capacity testing to ensure each cell meets standard performance requirements.
6. Battery Assembly and Testing:
Assembly: The battery cells undergo packaging to form the final lithium battery module.
Testing: Tests include charging/discharging tests, internal resistance tests, and safety tests to ensure each battery meets performance requirements.
Summary:
The flat plate hot press machine plays a critical role in lithium battery manufacturing by using heat and pressure to bond materials and promote electrolyte infiltration and electrode material reaction. This process is crucial to ensuring battery performance, capacity, life, and safety. The thermal pressing formation process effectively enhances the electrochemical performance and overall quality of the battery.
